Thing to know about IB Biology (SL/HL)

The International Baccalaureate is an educational program which offers a range of courses for student ranging from the ages of 3 to 19 years. The Primary Years Program, the Middle Years Program and the Diploma Program offer a wide range of seven subjects that the students can choose to study.  Experimental Science is one of the seven subjects that the course offers.   • Human Physiology

It is the study of the entire structure of the human body. It requires 20 hours of instructional time.

Other than these topics, students opting for higher level (HL) IB biology need to choose two or more topics from the following topics to complete the diploma –

  • Nucleic acids

It is the study of nucleic acids which are biomolecules essential for every life form. It requires 9 hours of instructional time.

  • Metabolism, cell respiration and photosynthesis

This topic focuses on the activities and different functions of the cells that are essential for their survival. It requires 14 hours of instructional time.

  • Plant Biology

It is the branch of biology which focuses of the life plants. It requires 13 hours of instructional time.

  • Genetics and evolution

It is the combined study of genes and their evolution over time. It requires 8 hours of instructional time.

  • Animal Physiology

It studies the chemical, biological and physical functions to carry out life in different species of animals. It requires 16 hours of instructional time.

Ways to Score well in IB Biology

The key to getting good score in IB is to plan and organize well ahead. So build yourself an effective study routine and allot time for every subject every day of the week. Try to study in sections for better learning. You can use a calendar app for better planning the study routine.
